Sheila Sturgis Craig
Associate Commissioner, HHSC Center for Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities 

Sheila Sturgis Craig's career spans 24 years of Health and Human Services in Louisiana and Texas. Sheila serves as Associate Commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission's Center for Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities (the Center). The Center is guided by Senate Bill 501 and Rider 87 of the 82nd and 83rd Legislatures. Sheila manages the foundational work of the center; Equity and Inclusion, the Texas Office of Minority Health and Health Equality, and Office of Border Affairs with a 32-member team located in offices across Texas. Sheila directs the development and implementation of initiatives to eliminate racial disproportionality and disparities in Health and Human Service agencies with coordinated efforts in education and juvenile justice. The Center's structure; the Texas Model: A Framework for Equity has advanced Texas as a national leader in fostering equity among the most disparate populations in the state.
