Renee Castillo-De La Cruz joined the Supreme Court of Texas for the Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth and Families in November 2019. Her primary areas of focus are the improvement of educational outcomes for children and youth in the Texas foster care system and on meaningful access to justice and protection of rights for Texas children and families involved with the child welfare system through projects on parent resources, legal representation, mediation, and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  She began her legal career in private practice primarily focused on representing children before the juvenile justice system and representing children and parents in the child welfare system.  She later joined the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office in Lockhart, Texas, where she dedicated four years to the service of the children of Caldwell County through her representation of the Department of Family and Protective Services. Renee earned a Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2009 and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003.
