Hon. William H. (Bill) Harris
Chair, Child Protection Law Section, State Bar of Texas
Since 2011, Judge William H. (Bill) Harris has served as judge of the County Court at Law, in Paris, Texas. Additionally, Judge Harris is adjunct professor of Juvenile Law, and Family Law at the North Texas University School of Law.
Previous roles include: 1st Assistant County Attorney at the Lamar County Attorney’s Office; felony prosecutor and supervisor at the Criminal District Attorney’s Office; Special Assistant United States Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Texas; and Special Prosecutor Office of the Governor Regional Controlled Substance Apprehension Program, a drug task force set to review state and federal court matters.
Judge Harris has served on numerous committees including Texas Center for the Judiciary Judicial Resources Committee, and Legislative Committee; legislative liaison and president of the Texas County Court at Law Judges Association; and on the Children’s Commission’s Juvenile Justice Committee. He currently serves as chair of the State Bar of Texas Child Protection Law Section.
Judge Harris is certified with the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Criminal Law, Juvenile Law, and is sitting for the Family Law certification exam in October 2024.
His state military service includes Texas State Guard Major (O-4); Judge Advocate General Corps; and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for Command Support Services in Austin, Texas.
Judge Harris is a graduate of Texas A&M University at Commerce and St. Mary’s University School of Law. He and his wife, Stephanie, have two children.
