Legal Training Support

The Children’s Commission offers assistance for legal trainings which provide judicial and/or attorney training related to child welfare matters in Texas. Support for a proposed community, county, or regional training may include, but is not limited to, technical assistance with:

  • developing a training agenda,
  • identifying speakers,
  • hosting a webinar on Zoom,
  • identifying a venue, and/or
  • obtaining MCLE credit.

Additionally, financial assistance may include, but is not limited to, payment of speaker, venue, or MCLE fees.

Applications for legal training support must demonstrably relate to improving the safety, permanency, or well-being for children and families involved with the child welfare system. The application must identify a judicial sponsor and indicate which of the Children’s Commission’s Strategic Plan goal(s) the training aligns with (Collaboration, Systems Improvement, Legal Practice & Process, Training, and/or Data). Please note that the Children’s Commission is a state organization and thus cannot participate in or support any political or lobbying activities.

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and approval is at the discretion of the Children’s Commission. All requests for financial assistance are subject to the availability of funds and require a 25% cash or in-kind match; funding may be limited. All requests for non-financial support are subject to availability of Children’s Commission staff.

Trainings must be scheduled within the current fiscal year (September 30, 2024 – October 1, 2025). If approved, applicants will commit to coordinating with Commission staff in a timely manner. For in-person events, applications must be submitted no later than three months before the anticipated date of the event. Please link here to apply for legal training support:
